Day One

I have received many tidbits of advice about This Time in my life and in the life of my three children, ages 4, 3, and 18 months. Many tidbits. But this tidbit from my friend Terry has stuck with me for the past few months. Her children are close together in age like mine, only she's on the other side of the hard stuff. She has said to me, "you think you remember these times, because they are so horrible and so wonderful, and so So. But really you don't. It's such a whirl and you are going to forget so much. So here is my one piece of advice: write it down. Write it all down." Of course, I have not in these first four years of parenthood written the first thing down, but I suppose this is my goal for the year--to write it down so I don't forget. So I will remember the incredibly funny things they say. The magic. The sadnesses. The intensity. Because if I had a day that I could give them, it would be a day just like today.

More tomorrow when it's not 11:08pm. I'm new to this.
